Summary

Star Wars: Uprising is an action-MMORPG based on the Star Wars universe and set between the movies Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Following the death of Emperor Palpatine and the Battle of Endor, the Imperial Governor Adelhard has set up an iron blockade around the Anoat sector so the planets remain in the dark about the emperor's death.

In the shadows of the blockade rebels, smugglers, bounty hunters and gangsters band together to form an uprising against the presence of the Empire in the sector. The player is a young smuggler who works for Happy Dapp on the impoverished mining planet Burnin Konn where people turn to the local crime bosses to obtain the goods the blockage prevents them from acquiring.

Creative/Narrative Direction

I wore two hats on Star Wars: Uprising. As creative/narrative director, I guided the development teams to understand our story, build out the content, and shoot our cinematic moments. I also oversaw all text that went into the game, including the script, crew, missions, menus, item descriptions, localization, liaising with Lucas Arts, and more.

The game clips below demonstrates the creative and narrative direction I gave to the team—how the player acquires the information to start the story; the original locations, their information, environments, and their look and feel; the character personality and interactions; the cinematic interactions; the representation of the mental battle using conventional gameplay; how characters communicate via transmission and via the Force, etc.

Writing

While my primary responsibility was creative and narrative direction, as one of only two writers at the studio, I created and wrote names and descriptions for each of the 400+ crew characters, items, location destinations, question/journal text, flavor text, and more.

The game clip below shows a few snippets of the type of writing I was responsible for on this project.
